MR. GRANVILLE SHARP AND THE HONGKONG GOVERNMENT.

Correspondence in reference to the resumption by the Colonial Government on behalf of the War Department

of a portion of Inland Lot No. 671.

(EXTRACT).

8th November, 1873.

Dear Mr. SHARP,

If you cut earth from 671 you will bring down the hill and War Department stone on the top of you. Try and select some other site and I will be glad to meet your convenience. I may add that the quarry Farmer was stopped from cutting stone some time ago near the very same place.

Yours truly,

(Sd) J. M. PRICE,

Royal Engineer's Office,

20th December, 1873.

Dear Sir,

Rich has surveyed and reported on the Reserve at West Point to the effect that the War Department stones are not on the lot you referred to That is assuming the Plan in my office to be correct which I believe it to be.

Any way the site is so limited I could not consent to it being reduced by quarrying.

Believe me,

Yours truly,

(Sd.) E. M. GRAIN,

(Col. Commanding Royal Engineers.)

Hongkong,
